Intermediate - Intro to Lead Came

Class Description

Sept 12th & 13th, 1-5pm both days (students must attend both sessions) This class is a beginner level lead came class but an intermediate level glass class. Glass cutting will not be taught in this class. The lead came technique requires more accurate cutting than the copper foil technique, and students are expected to already know how to cut glass. This intermediate level class is a weekend intensive and consists of two 4-hour sessions, 1-5pm on a consecutive Saturday and Sunday . Students must attend both sessions. Day 1 we will be cutting our glass and constructing our panels, Day 2 we will be soldering and cementing. Lead came is the traditional method used to construct stained glass, before the copper foil technique was developed in the late 1800s by Louis Tiffany. Students will learn the basics of the lead came technique and can pick from a selection of glass colors to complete an 8x10 framed leaded panel over the weekend. Students must provide their own lead tools for the class - lead shears, mallet/glazing hammer, cement brush, horseshoe nails and stop blocks. These can be purchased at Carolina Stained Glass with a 10% student discount for ~$45. All other tools and materials will be provided.
